Birthday Cakes

May is my and Bryan's birthday month, so its always a busy baking month for me. This year our cakes fit a common theme- lemon and blackberries. For Bryan I made a lemon meringue cake that featured two lemon sponge cake layers filled with lemon cream, and then topped with lemon Swiss meringue buttercream frosting and a heap of blackberries. After tiring myself out on his cake (and having a bunch of lemons leftover) I made an easy lemon tart topped blackberries for my birthday.

Summer Appetizers

One of the best things I've eaten so far this year was marinated goat cheese with pink peppercorns and herbs de Provence. I made it for my birthday dinner with my family and we all thought it was incredible (even the ones who don't normally like goats cheese)! My birthday dinner theme was apertif hour in Southern France. Along with the goat cheese we also snacked on buttered baguette with sliced radishes and salt, a green olive tapenande, and a lemon and herb orzo salad with shrimp.
